The engine of the Porsche Super L 318 has a four-bearing crankshaft with overhead valves. An oil bath air filter with pre-air separator filtered dirt particles from the air in front of the carburetor. It is equipped with an injection pump with a Bosch multi-quantity stop and a radial cooling fan. Starting with engine number 318/046, Porsche introduced single-pole glow plugs. From July 1961, the Porsche Super L 318 cylinder head increased from 112 mm to 113 mm. It was equipped with a double clutch made by Fichtl & Sachs. The two clutches shared a common shaft, while one clutch shifted even gears and the other clutch shifted odd gears.
The front swing axle could be extended five times for different track widths. The width of the rear axle with planetary gears was also adjustable. A hydraulically operated power lift with three-point linkage and a lifting capacity of 1100 kg was optional as well as additional weights under the hood, a belt pulley and a front loader.
