At the beginning of the 1950s, Allgaier produced 300 Allgaier Diesel A40 tractors. The tractor with an engine output of 40 hp has a standing, water-cooled two-cylinder diesel engine with a 4-stroke vortex chamber.

The special features are the Bosch injection, the pressure circulation lubrication and the oil bath filter. The engine is also characterized by wet cylinder liners that can be replaced.

A single-disc dry clutch from Fichtel & Sachs is integrated into the 2000 kilogram Allgaier diesel A40 tractor. A total of seven gears are incorporated into the tractor. The first gear is designed as a crawler gear, while the sixth gear is designed to be used as an overdrive gear. Overall, it is an Allgaier gear thrust transmission. With the forward gears, speeds between 1.7 and 25.3 km/h were achieved. In reverse gear, the tractor covered distances at 3.8 km/h.

The tractor also has four PTO shafts that are driven by the engine. Of these, two PTO shafts in the rear area reached 540 and 1500 revolutions per minute. The side PTO shaft for the mower reaches 540 revolutions per minute. A left and right rotating pulley offers two speeds and a diameter of 260 millimeters and a width of 170 millimeters.

The foot-operated inner shoe brake of the Allgaier Diesel A40 tractor affects the rear wheels. It can also be used as a steering brake. The transmission handbrake has an independent effect.
